Lately, I've noticed that I've been getting almost addicted to grabbing copies of last-gen games (eg, PS2/Xbox1/Gamecube games) - mostly JRPGs. Anyone else finding themselves doing this? What games are you picking up?

I never got a chance to beat Twilight Princess (borrowed it from a friend) so I might pick it up later. I haven't even beaten Pikmin 2 either (waiting for the Wii-make for improvements).

I'm still buying PS2 games, but it's to play them not collect them.

I was playing Ratchet & Clank Goinng Commando until Fallout 3 arrived, and I still have a bunch of PS2 JPRGs to play that I already own, plus more that I want to buy.

At this rate I won't be buying a 360 for xmas, but with Jasper still vaporware I suppose that's a good thing.

Roms for systems from the 8-16bit eras can be gotten to work just about 100%, however even PS1 and N64 roms aren't quite perfect yet, let alone PS2/XBox/GC

I've finished up my PS1, PS2, and Xbox collections and am happy with them. Once I'm tired of the PS3, I will sell it and settle down with the old school systems for 3-4 years to play through the backlog.. Then I'll grab a used PS4 for around $100 on Ebay ;)

I definitely _play_ them, too. I just see them as more of a long-term item to hold onto as well.

I'll keep the ones I like and might replay, but I don't care about having original vs. greatest hits versions, or mint vs. just playable.

I realize you didn't say it was as an investment, but I definitely don't think of my haphazard accumulation of games that way -- I have stock index mutual funds for that :)

I'm willing to bet that, a year from now, my $40 of Ar Tonelico 2 will be worth more than your $40 of index funds. :)

But, yeah, they're not investments. If you're picky, though, they'll probably hold a reasonable amount of value for a while.
