Grabbed one of those x2 4800+ 2x1mb that showed up last week for about $110 shipped

i couldn't have asked for a better final cpu upgrade for this rig.

asus a8n-3
x2 4800+ @ 3.0G 250x12
1.48v

coming from x2 3800+ @ 2.6

dual pime95s runnning
idle 40c , 41c
load 65c, 75c

scythe mine cpu hsf (scmn - 1000)

ooooo up to 68c, 78c

fired it up at 2.880 right away and it passed everything. firgued i would see if it would post at 3.0ghz and so far its passing everything.. Also going to allow me to tighten back up my memory timings.

woah.. cpuz and speedfan show actual vcore to be at 1.53, may back it down a bit and see what i can get stable to 1.45ish

Where did you get it. I'd like to get in on that if it's not too late. The wife's rig could stand a shot of that if it's 939, it's a kn8.

There wouldn't be a noticeable difference in performance between the two. Don't know why you made that purchase but whatever makes you happy.

newegg, but they went OOS very fast once they were up.

Hot Deals Thread about it.

looks not just OOS, but deactived on newegg, tiger also says the product doesnt exist anymore, seems like AMD found some stock stuck in a corner somewhere and dumped em..

Thats about as stable as I am able to get my FX60 but my voltage is a little lower like 1.41-1.42v I keep getting errors any higher

i can't wait to update my gaming rig, its gonna be fun. right now its an AMD machine:

FX60, ATI 580 3200 Express Core Logic, SCSI Ultra 320 15k Maxtor Atlas, 720w Infinity Enermax, X1900XTX, 2.2.2.5 timing memory

I play alot of RO Red Orchestra with everything on high, cept the AA at 2x 1280x1024

Enjoy!

Cheers

Dravic,

could you tell me how you have your memory timings set?

i am able to overclock my 4800 with these settings:

10 x 270 = 2700

memory timings at 3-3-2-7 @ 2.7v

when i change my settings to 12 x 250 = 3000 i can't even boot into windows.

250 is less than 270. i'm running my memory at 1:1 with the cpu. so, i don't understand why i can't get to 3 GHz stable.

it's the cpu, not the memory. I have the same problem, I can't get my opty 180 over 2.6 at any memory combination. he just has a good chip.

oh, i see. well at least i am able to get to 2.7. that's better than nothing and still plenty fast. thanks.

I'm not running my memory 1:1

2-3-2-5 @ 2.6v partiot low lantency stuff 2x1GB at 2t

im actually settling in at 2.904Ghz 242x12 lets me run mymemory at 201mhz 2-3-2-5 @ 2t with the 333 divider

back me down from the 3.0Ghz edge (couldn't get 50mhz more, wouldn't even post) a bit, and my memeory is using the lowest latency it can.

Dravic, I'm getting better results (bandwidth and bench-wise) with looser timings and 1T, although 1T is not as easy to get since I switched from 2x512MB to 2x1GB.

yeah i cant get 1t reliably wih 2x1GB either.

I haven't run an real benchies yet besides looping stuff like 3dmark, super pi, and prime95. Red Sox have had my attention these last few nights :)

My memory was running as low as 172 since my mem divider with the 3800+ needed to be at 266/400, 260x10 for 2.6ghz. The board will do 275. I used to run the 3800+ at 2.7+ghz before backing off a bit as I usually do.

now my memory is running at 201 so i have actually increaded my bandwidth with the lower 242x12 setting and the 333/400 memory divider.
