I wanted to get in on the Apex 3201 deal at CompUsa. They gave me the Lasonic Delta-1000 as a substitute I was quite weary, never heard of Lasonic.
Well, this is what I learned.
Original Post!!
I opened the Lasonic Delta-1000, was pleasently surprised.
I tried burning, MY FIRST, VCD w/ Nero. I put it in my Sony DVP-360 wich does not like cd-rs and it didn't work, it does work no problem in the Lasonic. It was a cheap kensiko 16x cd-r burned at 24x on an Acer. The controls are so so. The picture is also ok, but that is with composite, there is also component and s video. No optical, just digital out and R/L stereo. It works through a VCR, so you can dub to VCR and I believe play through a coax if you have a tv without all the nice plugs and inputs, haven't tried coax, but it should worlk like with a playstation. There is also a hack for this one, I linked it earlier, not into the regional stuff, but I guess its available. Has Kareoke, but no mic jack?? Is on the Compusa website, but is for 99.99, I bet if you call they will give it to you. They should also be hitting the stores, this is a new sku, so deal is alive again!! Maybe??
Just called the rebate center, they confirmed that the sku for the Lasonic was also being offered as a $30.00 rebate.

Here is the hack link
Delta-1000 hack code
Hack Remote Code

This is a choppy cut and paste from the last thread, but you should be able to get in on this one at B&M or by calling CompUsa
Product Link with verified rebate sku.

Link to CompUsa product with sku to look or call for!

Good Luck

Looks like no one is interested, but I did some testing.

Can dub through VCR
Can play through VCR via coax, ie composit to coax
Plays VCD well, even cheapo cdrs
Regional hackable, no hack needed for VCR dubbing

Well, sale ends tommorow.

Thanks for the info - it shows as instock at my store, so I think I know where I'm stopping in tomorrow morning :)

Question: I've got a set of BA4800 speakers (4.1 computer speakers if you're not familiar with them - sound good, self-amped of course, use front/rear stereo inputs) sitting here. Could I hook them up directly to this dvd player? (need some adaptors of course, rca to 1/8" are easy enough to get) I don't have a receiver to run through and I'm looking to set something up on the cheap.

You could, but you won't get dolby or dts, you need a decoder or a reciever that has a decoder, or a sound card.....I think.:)
You still get two chanel stereo, just not true 4 channel without a decoder of some kind.

I knew I wouldn't get surround, but I could use a splitter and "fake" it just duplicate the signal to the back. Be nice to play mp3s in the living room too...

More interested in its ability to play SVCD and XSVCDs--VCDs are too horrible in quality to watch.

A comparable model (maybe?) at vcdhelp.com shows it as playing SVCD/MP3 (bit rate?), but is inconclusive as to XSVCD.

Sorry Goobered Up, I am new to VCD stuff.
I just know that VCDs work, I will be looking into SVCDs, I haven't even heard of XSVCDs.
Will let you know, but it will be too late.
Only $49.99 though, if it doesn't work you could sell it to a buddy for 50 bucks I bet.
