Has anyone had it done or do you know anyone who had it done? How did it turn out? How much did it cost?

Thanks,
KK

Tiger Woods had it done at TLC Eye Center in Toronto.

That should speak volumes of its effectiveness. :D

A buddy of mine is getting it done next week. $1000/eye I think. I did hear that you get what you pay for though. Do not go for the cheapest one. Also, they don't garentee 20/20 vision, but there is about a 75%-80% chance of it. 90% chance 20/40

My wife wants to get it done, but so far the price we're getting is around 3800 for both which seems like too much. My friend had the old knife in the eye corrective surgery 6 or so years ago for around 600 an eye. I can see maybe paying 2k-2.5k for it. Of course, if we went for the cheapest one and something happened I would never hear the end of it.

it isn't for everyone and there is a good chance that you will see halo's at night, rings around lights.

My father knows a good bit about this because he works in the field (sort of). As I recall, it's not always perfect. also, I agree with what Calcio said.

it was easily the best thing i ever did. i would not shop for values on something like this, and rather find someone was a LOT of experience and is using the latest lasers and equipment.

If you are insistant on having it done, look around at all the providers in the area. DO NOT look at price. Look instead to the doctor that has performed THE MOST procedures. Experience really pays off here. I personally would never have it done, but that is just my phobia about the relative permanance of the procedure.

if everyone is looking for a doctor with the most experience, how is a doctor ever going to get experience?

anyhow i know i would personally look for a doctor with experience, but just wondering.

I had it done and so did my wife. we just got back from LA where she had it done. both of us came out w/ 20-40 to 20-20 vision.

for me, under decent eye conditions (there are circumstances where you don't see as well) I have 20-20 vision in both eyes. on days that it is really dry (my left eye tends towards dryness) i have 20-40 vision in the left eye, 20-20 in my right eye. definitely nothing to complain about.

my brother, who has a Lasik Eye Center in LA did both me and my wife.

like it was stated above, don't go with just anyone, experience is important. (i was the first patient my brother did, but I know his quality, nothing he has ever done in his life has been subpar. that was 1.5 years ago, since he has done a LOT of patients)

one quick experience, when i had my eyes done (it was by my bro then doing his fellowship for USC) at USC eye clinic, Kiki Vandeweghe had his eyes done the same day at that clinic. i met kiki and his wife. anyway, kiki was actually coming back to have his eyes touched up by another surgeon. he was a NERVOUS wreck. he went in and they it took them over 1 hour to get him settled down and do the touch up. i had some valium that my bro had given me so that i wouldn't be the nervous like that and i offered it to kiki who had just gotten out of surgery. his wife asked me why i had the valium and i told them my brother proscribed it for me so that i wouldn't be nervous. well needless to say, kiki and his wife were not happy that their doctor didn't take the same precautions.

The best method today is Zyoptix which is a development of the older LASIK. If you are astigmatic or have myopia and want a permanent solution this is probably the best way to go. The method removes less tissue than LASIK so the risk of infections is smaller. It will also get rid of the halos that astigmatic people often still experience after LASIK surgery.
