Laserjet Problems

I have an old LaserJet 4L. I havent used it in months because I thought I ran out of toner and hadnt had a chance to buy some. So tonight I hook it up and print a test page. Now I was just thinking, the page comes out with faint text...making me think its running out of toner...but the WHOLE PAGE has a faint gray...like toner was printed all over...can low toner cause this? maybe i need something more than just toner. I wanna make sure before i spend over $50 on new toner.

I've had the same problem with an old Laserjet 4L. I'd say that it isn't as much the low toner as the old image drum. Replacing the cartridge solved the problem. I say go for it.
