The first, last, and only time I saw a LaserDisc player in action was in middle school. I don't even remember what the video was. That thing was ridiculous... might as well have just kept using VHS tapes.

? LD was composite, has allowance for DD/DTS soundtrack and s-video out. It was great for what it was, remember, it was the same time frame as VHS and BetaMax. Too bad it didn't catch on in NA. Just being able to skip chapters was great :)

Not to mention the home Karaoke angle :D

Oh no I definitely get what you're saying, and you're right. What I'M saying is that for some simple little science and history videos, it was way too complicated and was a waste. :p

I think the education sector got into it because of the repeat play requirement. Tapes wear out really badly in school. LD was a lot better in terms of wear as long as people handle them correctly.

True. They came in these huge sleeves and I remember saying something to the effect of, "WTF? Are those records?" Ah... good times. :p

2 things.

1 If you think Laser Disk was crazy go lookup 'Video Disk' on wiki.

2 On board the Space Station the main control computers are 386s. Of course in terms of pure speed they are much faster than anyones rig on AT.
