Laser Printers: 600 or 1200 dpi - any difference?

As the title asks... On a laser printer... Can one really justify 1200 x 1200 dpi. Can the eye "really" see a difference? Plan on using a laser printer almost entirely for text, not pictures... But, even if I did use it for pictures, I can't imagine it would really be easy to tell the difference...

For text, I can't see the difference.

For pictures, I believe there is a difference. Certainly, the difference is not as large as the one between 300 and 600dpi, but it's noticable.

You will usually only notice the difference in actual photographs. If you don't use them, you won't see the difference. However, with embedded photos on a page, the difference is very apparent.

I have heard that the best the eye can resolve is about 300 dpi (not sure of this!) What ever I think 600 dpi is beyond the resolution of the eye, so higher resolutions are just hype, all printer companies have to play the game though!
