I've decided I really need to get myself a printer, if just to have hard-copies to proofread, since I can't do that worth crap on the screen - I miss everything.

Anyway, I want a laser since I only really print text, but I can't seem to decide between the two above printers. I put the Samsung 1740 in there since it seems to be taking the place of the 1710 and the 1710 seems pretty hard to find in a B&M store locally.

I like the form factor of the Samsung better with the slide in paper tray which means it will fit nicely in an empty shelf on a bookcase next to my PC, whereas the HP would overhang because of it's paper-tray. I also like how the Samsung is not host-based, which seems odd that the HP is host-based but still costs about the same as the Samsung - unless the price indicates an increased print quality over the Samsung - any opinions on this?

The main negative for the Samsung is I can't seem to locate any local retailers that carry the appropriate Samsung toner cartridge - and most of the time they don't carry Samsung toner cartridges at all (Staples for one, unless I just overlooked them in the sea of HP boxes).

Of course, I guess toner might be best purchased online, but NewEgg doesn't even really seem to stock Samsung toner very well - I only found one cartridge.

In any case, what are people's opinions between these two printers? Thanks guys.
