Laser mouse liftoff

I have a cheap HP wireless laser mouse for my laptop and it tracks when it's off the surface at least 3cm. Do higher quality gaming mice do this as well? I always thought that optical was the way to go with a mouse if you find yourself lifting the mouse of the pad frequently because of low sensitivity. I don't when I'm just using my computer regularly, but some situations in games like using turrets make it impossible to turn without lifting the mouse.

Happens w/my logitec g5 as well. Its even less than 3cm i believe (more like 1 cm). That's why I use the mx518 still.

My G500 stops tracking about 5mm off the table, but I play on a bare wood surface. Even with my old, busted Ikari Laser, I never had any problems with liftoff distance.

eh, about 3/4 cm maybe on both my g9 and rev.

Im dissapointed, i was expecting pictures of a flying mouse.

why would you lift the mouse?

Mouseology 101 . . . when one runs out of room, i.e., the edge of a table or pad, one lifts the mouse to move it so as to allow continued movement in the chosen direction.

Doesn't work when you're a finger gripper, the superior mouse grip.

Just got my Razer Diamondback 3g. Doesn't even track with 1 dvd under it (1.2mm). Very impressed.
