I'm thinking of laser eye correction soon and I'd like to get some stories if you've had the operation done in recent months.

I've had contact lenses for almost 10 years now and I'm sick of it.

Which center did you attend? What was your net cost (after any insurance)?

Any bad news or after effects? And lastly, what type of operation was it?

I've spoken to co-workers and other sources with their inputs, I merely want the off-topic mass ;)

thanks

I don't mind my glasses.
With my glasses, my vision is corrected to 20/20
With my sunglasses (prescription), my vision is 20/15
From what I understand about laser eye correction, 20/30 is pretty good.

Not good enough for me though. Also, I have very good night vision. I can go for walks through the woods if the moon is out. Even without the moon, as long as the stars are out and bright, I can get along just fine. From what I understand, the problem that laser surgery had with ruining people's night vision is a thing of the past. Still...

Best money I've spent besides that hooker down by the river.

I went to lasik plus, spent somewhere in the neighborhood of 2400 total...No side effects...20/15 vision...

My brother had it done a couple weeks ago. Haven't talked to him recently but right after he said it was great. He could see better than with his contacts.

If you want specifics, let me know and I can ask.

It was done in Milwaukee, WI somewhere since that's where we are but I don't know the specifics.

You keep telling yourself that. I wore glasses and contacts for 20 years, and the minute they were gone, I felt so much better not having to worry about that garbage. I can leave an air conditioned building in the summer in a humid environment and not have to worry about condensation on my glasses (or sweating during the summer and having my glasses fog). No smeared glasses anymore, requiring cleaning. No more trying to find them in the morning. No contact lens solutions to tote around, or extra pairs of glasses (or chemical gas mask inserts if you're in the military -- damn those are ugly!). Trust me -- any pain or problems or compromises are worth the vast benefit of having good eyes again.

My laser corrected eye vision is approximately 20/15 now. The night vision thing was a bother for a few months (I had PRK, recovery is much longer), but my night vision is fine now. It's actually better than before because things are in focus when I wake up in the middle of the night, like the clock across the room.

Net cost was zero because the Air Force performed the surgery. HIGHLY recommended procedure. The only downside has been dry eyes, but it seems to be improving on a slow but steady pace. Compared to wearing glasses every day, it's a very small price to pay.

Andrew, how long did it take for the PRK to heal? As in, how long until your eyes didn't hurt, you had good enough vision to drive, anything like that?

Ditto. Except my hooker was at the park.
