Las Vegas advice?

Leaving for Vegas in the morning.. just looking for any last minute tips, things to note. I will NOT have a CAR. Is there a bus that just goes up and down the strip? How much or is it more advisable to take a cab. Anything superfragalisticexpialidosis thats near Sahara Casino. Or is there anything you just want to say about vegas? well heres the thread for it. Let me have it, I have an hour before I'm going to bed.

edit: I should note that I'm going for Business, and I will just have a few hours to spend out in the town each night (3 nights/4 days) I have meetings from 8am-6pm everyday.

Sahara in my experience wasn't a great hotel. It's cheap, but you get what you pay for. I went in the summer, and their AC system didn't work. Other than that, it's winter. You will be right there. Check out the Wynn hotel.

there's a monorail that runs behind the strip. It's kinda out of the way and expensive from what I'm told, but I never used it.

Cabs are expensive, try the monorail. It gets you to the center strip faster than taking a cab. Sahara has a monorail stop.

Yeah, Sahara is way out there. I never stayed there, but it looks fairly rundown.
On the other hand, Stratosphere is almost across.

I dont recall exactly since it was this summer that I was out there, but there is a bus system that travels north and south on the strip that is pretty efficient at getting you from one place to another without using the cabs. It will take you all the way downtown and all the way to the south end of the strip, and as I recall it ends up most useful to get the $5 24 hour use card to get on whenever you want rather than buying a $2 ticket each time you get on. I also know that it costs around 30-40 to get from the airport to the marriage license bureau, so keep expensive cab fares in mind

Checking in from Las Vegas.

Sahara is considered to be at the north end of the strip (along w/ the Strat).
There is the Monorail that runs along the back of the hotel and hits many of the large casinos along the strip. It is (as other said) expensive and may be considered to be slower at times (due to wait/stop) than using shoe leather.

There are cabs and city buses along the strip. The buses allow you an all day pass and are fairly efficient.

Sahara has some good poker tournaments at 11am, 2pm, and 11pm if I'm not mistaken. Outside of that, the place is nothing special at all. Bad end of the strip. Probably $5 to $10 cab ride to get down to Venetian/Cesesars area. All the casinos next to the Sahara are older, which isn't bad if you like Bingo and slots.

Skip downtown unless you're going with other people. It's a dump and you'd be disappointed spending the cab fare to see that.

MGM Grand has a great poker room along with Mirage and Bellagio.

Look for the horse racing game near the sportsbooks. You sit around a big square table and bet on little plastic horses that run around a track. Great fun, especially if you have a few friends playing along with you.

Back in July my now-wife, and I decided on a Friday night at 11pm to buy plane tickets to vegas to get married the next day. We got a flight for 630am the next morning and landed at the airport having little idea of where to go, though we had both been to vegas we were unsure of where the marriage license bureau was. We took a cab and said we wanted to get married and where did we have to go so he took us from the airport to downtown to get our license. We waited in line for about 45 minutes and got our license and decided to start checking out places to get married in Vegas. Since our flight was for that night to come back, we decided to go anywhere we could. My wife wanted to try to find some nicer clothes so as you can imagine that took a while. We eventually decided to call and change our flight to Sunday and find a hotel, so that we could at least spend the night. Basically, we ended up changing our flight for free to a Sunday afternoon departure and got a room at the Riviera. Granted neither of us had a computer with us and didnt know the phone numbers to any of the information we were trying to find, so we had to go old school and find flyers and call random places seeking out airline numbers.
We got married at a little place between the strip and downtown at 9pm vegas time and were able to spend the night together in the hotel before having to return to our normal lives in Ohio. Needless to say it was an amazing weekend that will not be forgotten, and it is always a good story to tell.
