I'm 25 and about to embark on a family vacation (parents and uncle/aunt) to Las Vegas... my questions:

- How many days do you think we need there ? We plan to spend 4 days. Is that a good number ?
- Is it okay to rent a car there - is there parking in the hotels or is it "city-like" ? We're staying in an avg hotel on the strip.

Reason why I'm asking about the car is because we plan on driving to LA after day 4 (likely Wednesday) and coming back, after 2 days, and back to the airport in LV.

Don't get a car. The strip is pretty densely packed, and taxis are supercheap there. (At least, they were at Comdex three years ago.)

parking is EXTREMELY easy in hotels.... they have HUGE parking lots

u actually dont need a car in the strip, but since you want to drive to LA thats a good idea since a taxi ride will cost u mucho $$$ (its a 4-5 hour drive from vegas to LA)

I personally think 2-3 nights in vegas is enough... one night to watch a show, and the othe rnight to gamble... well unless if u want to watch more than 1 show

its hot as hell right now... i wouldn't wanna be walking out there along the strip... it feels icky... unless you like that sort of feeling and it snows all year long where you live. :)

I would hold of on renting the car until your drive to LA, and you should just rent it through the hotel. (most of them have that service available) Renting through the hotel, or on the strip, will save you on the huge airport rental fees.

Parking at the hotels is really easy, but why bother. I don't even drive the ambulance down the strip because it takes too long.

I was thinking of waiting till just before going to LA to get the car like some of you suggest, but I should be able to get a discount from Hertz (club gold)... so it's not a big worry. The airport is right off the strip anyway, right (according to the map it is)?

I only care about finding parking, so I don't really have a worry there anymore I guess. I thought, though, all the attractions were just a walk up and down the strip... kind of a waste with a car eh ? Is there free parking at all the sites ?

Definitely get a car, parking is available everywhere inside any major hotel and it's free!

Hey I'll be in Vegas too :D

Going August 7th until the 14,15 or something. First time there and I have no idea what to do. Going with the girlfriend and her parents so it's pretty much a free ride.

You can walk and see everything along the strip, not worth driving. They have walkways across the roads, etc. and by the time you would find a parking space you could have covered the same distance walking.

rent a car. the taxi drivers are going to rip u off at the airport by taking u the long way.

budget.com has cars for $20/day. that's the same as a taxi ride.

also, u want to catch the free mardi gras show at the Rio. and it's 1/2 mile off the strip. u will NOT enjoy walking there in 115F heat. then after the show, get the all u can eat seafood buffet for $30/each. it's WORTH the price!

it'll take u 2 days to see all the free/cheap shows because of time conflicts. hoover dam is also a nice scenic ride (30 min). A FEW HOURS TO site see. stop off at lake mead and take some nice photos on your way back.

also, it's a b1tch of a walk from the pirateship show to the tropicana for their acrobats in 115f heat!

parking is free. just drive into ANY casino. they might search your trunk tho, but no biggie.

Get the rental car from the airport, definitely not a hotel satellite location, they cost WAY more per day. Yes, parking is free everywhere, except in downtown (validation is available though). I wouldn't dare walking around in this kind of heat. The distances on the strip are deceiving, it may look nearby nextdoor but in reality they make you walk around the pathways like a maze.

Try to walk from Circus Circus to Luxor, see how much time it will take you. Plenty of free parking spaces everywhere, it's much easier to just drive to places.

strip clubs. bring your girl for best chances for a 3 some since the strippers will be interested in her, and you're just along for the free ride (like u said above) ;)

I guess it may be YMMV because when I was there last summer it was bumper to bumper and the traffic sure wasn't moving fast. We did walk the entire strip a couple times too.

Did that a couple times when I was there, I didn't think it was inconvenient.

No way in hell we'd be going strip walking at this summer temperature. Night time is when all the folks come crawling out from the cave and go out on the strip to see the bright neon lights :) Been to Vegas about 4-5 times now, got lots of relatives there.

Best place to be during the days is inside the casinos or the malls.

How's traffic on the strip during day/night time nowadays? Heard back then the utilized some kind of a traffic device from one of the business in local Winnipeg to help control traffic, wonder how successful it was?

Any interesting news to report since we last went there 3yrs ago? Anything big happen? There's ALWAYS construction going on there! City must've changed a lot in 3yrs time.

If you get a car you might want to take a small side trip to Laughlin, its kinda scenic there not as many people as vegas its about an hour drive away from vegas. Go take a boat ride on the Colorado River or something, its nice. Also Walking on the Strip is kind of annoying with those people flicking those strip club advertisments and stuff.

I should mention we're going in the last week of September. What's the weather going to be like in LV and LA then ? Believe it or not, this is my first west coast trip.

It's still going to be warm in LV in September, but not the scorching 115 degree heat of July/August.
