I don't really understand why everyone says that.

The only reason is because he is the "voice" of Metallica. He's always been the one that does interviews and stuff like that.

Nah, the reason everyone says that is because of the way he went after "EVIL" people just like the RIAA, putting lawsuit-after-lawsuit and pressing for it all. He basically lit the match that ignited the RIAA fire golem.

No.. that's what I mean.

Lars is just the voice of Metallica. "He" didn't do anything, it was Metallica. They obviously all believe in the same ideals.

If Kirk, or James was the outspoken one in the group, everybody would say the same thing about them.

I attended a chat session with them way back when, and they explained their reasoning for the napster thing perfectly. It made perfect sense.

It wasn't about $. It was about what Metallica believed in, music industry wise. They didn't want their music distributed without their permission; it is their music.

They have no problem with MP3. They even admitted to using it themselves. They simply didn't like where Napster was taking MP3.

Obviously, they were fighting a losing battle.. but still, you can't expect anybody to do anything but what they believe is right.

i bet his record company gives him an excellent contract. 10c x 90 million = $9 mil for the whole band. who keeps buying all those CDs?

Oh, yeah, we were talking about this in #neochat. The general consensus was that Lars Ulrich, Metallica, et al. suck giant monkey balls.

Interesting that Lars was telling fans to bootleg concerts and demo tapes in the early 80's when the band was trying to break into the scene. Of course, once they made it big then it's no longer 'cool' to bootleg the music.

He still advocates bootlegging concerts(and presumably demo tapes).

Copying a CD isn't the same as recording a concert performance.

Funny. As much as I love Metallica and don't really care how Lars acts I'd say he's a fairly average drummer. Better than most but incredible? Eh.

Danny Carrey, Neil Pert, Joey Jordison, Dave Lombardo, now those are incredible drummers ;)

Dear God please tell me you're kidding...

If not, the bands would be Tool, Rush, Slipknot, and Slayer respectively.

And you can bash Slipknot all you want but that little midget is one sick drummer :)

Actually, Lombardo and Joey filled in for Lars at a show a few weeks back when Lars got sick. You should probably be able to find the mp3's of the show on metallica's site. Check them out if you can find them and decide for yourself who's better.
