nah the suckage of st anger doesnt have much to do with lars. Its more to do with kirk and no guitar solos, around that time they were very busy, and and werent practicing very much.

Tsk.. that was a little tactless don't you think? I mean, isn't it a little soon? It's only been about SEVEN YEARS. Did you just climb out of a DeLorean or did you just take a stab at jumping on a broken bandwagon and you fell on your face?

If I had a Delorean, I'd go back in time and offer your mother RU486.... I'm sure she'd take it as well....

neat vids,

that drums sound is annoying, id really like to hear St Anger played with a normal sounding drum, because it IMO wouldent be nearly as bad

Aspiring drummers, watch & learn. Leave your snare drum alone or you might suck as much as metallica post-black-album.

Huh? That must be Lars's attempt at humor because, adjusting the snare on or off of the bottom snare skin is a common feature of most snares. It's nothing special. Lots of drummers do it depending on the sound they want for the song. That just shows Lars's ignorance and drumming knowledge.

St. Anger sounds bad, because it was purposefully tracked and engineered to sound like a cheap, sloppy, quickly-recorded album. That albums sound production was decided on by the band and Bob Rock. They thought it would be hip and cool to have an album sound like a two cent, garage recorded demo.

I don't even know what to say.

There's lame........

Then there's pathetic......

Then somewhere below that there's whatever this video is.

As mentioned before..........all conventional snares do this. I have no idea WTF Lars was doing. He acts as if he just figured this out during the making of St. Anger.

I'm going to dinner now to forget I ever saw this video.

Exactly. I'm unfamiliar with Lars's humor or his style of joking, so I don't know if this is his way of making fun of St. Anger's sound or not.

However, if the dude is serious, then it just shows how inept the guy is. I could totally see him in the studio as they were writing and tracking St. Anger: "Dudes, check it out! If I turn this lever, the 'rattle, rattle' sound goes away! It sound different! I'm going to record it like that!" Meanwhile, Bob Rock and the rest of the band are shaking their heads.

I remember in the Some Kind of Monster documentary, they were arguing about this during one scene, and they told Kirk he couldn't do the solos because it would "date the music to a particular period" or something like that.

Yeah. Just backing up Special K. The band (Lars) felt that the solos would remind people of past music, namely the '80s and early '90s. They (Lars) wanted a more modern sounding (musically, not aurally) album. The music on the radio at that time was sans guitar solo. The guitar solo is now slowly coming back into popular rock music.
