I think he's just indulging in hyperbole for comedic effect, no? Exaggerating to emphasize how much Applecrap they buy.

Though, as someone with an irrational dislike of both Metallica and Apple, I think its right and proper that the former should like the latter. It would be unsettling to find either hating the other.

Correct.
OP is misreading what Lars is saying. I think the OP thinks that Lars is saying that sales of Metallica crap on iTurns accounts for 10% of Apple's revenue. When he's really saying he (his family) personally buys so much Apple shit, that he (his family) is keeping Apple in business.

On file-sharing:

"Lars Ulrich: 'We're responsible for about 10 per cent of Apple's profits each year — our house is a Steve Jobs shrine in full effect.'"

http://www.roadrunnerrecords.com/blabbermouth.net/news.aspx?mode=Article&newsitemID=143025

This guy has got a really inflated view of himself.

The article reads "On not being anti-Internet:", not "On file-sharing:".

If he was saying what you think he is saying, he would have said something like "Steve Jobs's house should be a shrine to us [Metallica]."

But, nice theory anyway.

I thought Metallica Died when the bus crashed in 86?

Shortly thereafter. wasn't their self titled album release in the late 80's or early 90's? That was their last good album its gone down hill from there unfortunately :(

Yeah, the early stuff was metal, then the black album from the early 90's was metal/alternative which was still good, and then came Load IIRC which blew. Since then, I don't really know, but I hear it sucks.

I really liked the S&M album. *shrug*. The depth of the sound was wonderful.

I think they've been relevant since then. They just haven't been particularly good.

Sue me, I like the black album.
