Largesystemcache key in windows xp registry

I noticed today after I installed my new motherboard (Asus P4C800-E) and my new CPU (P4 3.0c) when I went to do some registry tweaks that in

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management\

there was no LargeSystemCache dword value. I remember when I was tweaking XP when I had my 2.53GHz that it was there and now its not with the new CPU. Does the new CPU have something to do with it? I didn't see the dword value so I put it in myself but after rebooting windows would hang at a black screen with an arrow pointer and then reboot in a couple of seconds. I went into safe mode and removed it and my PC booted up fine.

Any guesses at what is going on would be appreciated.

Thanks.

There's a lot of entries that aren't there after a fresh install, that usually just means Windows uses the default value. My guess would be you set it to a bad value, generally you shouldn't need to change it anyway.

Why are you trying to change this setting, it defaults properly for desktop mode upon install.

on Tweaktown.com there was 2 Windows XP Tweak FAQs there, one of them said to change the value from 0 to 1.

That will set the default for server caching, so unless your not running local apps and want to maximize network/file share usage, don't do this.

start --> settings --> control panel --> system --> advanced --> performance settings

goto the advanced tab and change memory usage from "programs" to "system cache." i've hear that does the same thing as the largesystem cache reg tweak

if you have an ati videocard then it's recommended that you leave that setting alone ie do not change the decimal to 1 as it can mess up your install!

Delayed write failures have nothing to do with the size of the filesystem cache, if you're getting them you have a driver or hardware problem.
