I am into 2 stroke ATV's. Two weeks ago a friend of mine shipped a cylinder off his LT250R from Michigan to Washington to have some port work done to it. He included the cylinder head, piston, and crank shaft. It was shipped Priority mail, but he forgot to insure it. After a 2 week wait, it showed up in Washington today, with a very large hole in the box. The sleeve of the cylinder was broken off (see pictures) the piston was missing, the crank was missing, and the box was filled up with connecting rods from some sort of diesel engine or possibly a small block chevy? There are also some misc nuts and bolts in there that were not part of the package. (see pictures). The gasket surface of the cylinder is also smashed up heavily. So not only is my friend pissed, but there is some guy out there who is missing the connecting rods to his small block (or whatever they're from, I have no clue)

The box was stamped as weighing 8 lbs when it left the post office in Michigan. When it reached Washington, it weighed in at 18 lbs. What, if anything can my friend do about this?

How did they manage to get someone else's engine parts in the place of yours. I mean how did they just happen to have that crap lying around. Something smells funny on your friends side.

Sounds very fishy to me as well. If someone is going to mess with it in transit, why bother with replacing the good stuff with junk - just steal it. Shipper or receiver is trying to get away with something.

There's something F'd up in Washington's postal service. I had a laptop come from WA to CA and took two weeks priorty mail, plus the contents were damaged. I sent a money order to WA from CA and it took over a month to get there and arrived in an envelope that wasn't mine with a different stamp than I used

Also strange is that has happened several times but with FedEx and computers being shipped.

nah.. pretty sure the shipper is just trying to pull some sh!t on you. I had a troll one time in a trade send me a crappy 4 year old socket 7 board instead of a newer ECS K7S5A(an AMD Athlon board that has only been out for a matter of months),, Probably exact same thing, just different items.

Baised on size, those are 5.7" rods from a 350 chevy. You have also been blessed with 2 lifters :)

Sounds like someone lifted the parts from ya, then tossed in some junk. What were the transit times?

Ok, This is going to throw some more info in to the fire.

Assuming farthest part of MI to DC, your looking at $9.00 for priority mail. 17 LBs comes out to $14.85 ( your box is marked $14.75 )

Something wierd is going on.

Why, for the love of all things Holy, would he not insure the package????? Common sense would mandate that it be insured!!!

Well, I agree it looks a little shady - but assuming no one is lying, it IS possible that the box ended up with a huge hole in the side at the post office, and some random parts fell out, and then the post office took their best guess at which random parts that were lying around on the floor were supposed to be inside your box...

Why are you assuming he said DC? He said Washington. Recalculate your rate assuming it went to Washington the STATE. (you know that place on the west coast, borders cananda)

First of all, there is nothing 'fishy' going on with the sender or reciever. Both are personal friends of mine, and trustworthy people. That cylinder alone is worth 500 dollars, and isn't replaceable as the port job it has is no longer available. There is no reason he would want to try to get money out of this instead of his cylinder. All he wants is his parts. If he wanted the money, do you not think he would have insured it for $2000 or something instead of not insuring it at all? Spare me that please, like I said before, this is nothing fishy, it is a pure USPS snafu.

I checked with the post office in Michigan. From 48742 Priority to 98390 8lbs 12 ounces = $14.75 18 lbs is $27.80

The stuff in the box that isn't his very well might be good parts, but we don't know as we aren't the owners of the parts.

We are also talking about Washington State, not DC, sorry for the confusion.

What I wonder is if two ajoining packages somehow got damaged..all the crap got dumped out, and someone noticed it and just threw stuff into both boxes. Hard to say. The box was never even retaped, it just had a huge gaping hole in it.

I guess he tried going in today and all they had to say was 'uhh sorry I guess' so next he is on to speak with the Inspector General. Either way, I think this is going to hurt his wallet big time. I guess insure your packages is the moral of the story.
