Largest HD supported by Win 7 & Win 8.1 ?

What is Largest HD supported by Win 7 ??

What is Largest HD supported by Win 8.1 ??

The first two responders to the above query have pointed out that I knew a lot less than I thought. So let me expand on this.

If I buy a new 4tb or 5tb hard drive to replace the smaller 2.2tb backup drive that I have connected to a USB 3.0 port, what do I have to do to install it and make maximum use of its size?

I have done a quick look at write-ups on MBR and GPT and have just been confused.

Many thanks to the responders.

There isn't one you can hit yet. 6TB HDDs are well supported. GPT can support 9.4ZB (zettabytes). We have moved on from MBR and pre-UEFI.

Same for both
MBR partitions ~2.2TB

GPT Partitions - can't find it quickly but something like 256TB (ntfs limit I belive)
the actual partitions can go something int ExaBytes(EX range)
