large RAM mobos?

I'm interested in putting together a system that combines a moderate number of processors (eg, 2) and cores (eg, 8-12) with a lot of RAM (eg, 100s of GB) to experiment with Neo4j, other graph databases, etc wiki.cfcl.com/Projects/YAGO/Hardware discusses my motivations and one possible approach. If anyone has suggestions on other approaches, I would love to hear about them, discuss their costs and capabilities, etc.

Apart from pure server boards, something like workstations is the closest thing you can get than can have much RAM.
For example my workstation (circa 2006) could handle up to 32 GB and has two CPU sockets. Newer products might have gone up to 100 GB and maybe you can find four CPU configurations. There are also RAM expansion modules that you can fit.

My current desktop machine also handles up to 32 GB and has two CPU sockets. I'm hoping to find something substantially larger (eg, 300+ GB). I'd rather not divide this into four sockets, however, because each socket only sees part of the RAM directly.

The cheapest platform to get you access to > 32GB ram is AMD socket G34.

There are 16GB DDR3 ECC RAM available for server/workstation builds. Once you start getting into quad-channel territory, with 8 DIMMS, that's 128GB RAM. Make that a 2 socket setup, and you're looking at 256GB.

We're actually using 32GB modules. These servers run 1TB of ram.

If your insinuating I'm being lazy, the OP was not clear if was building himself. If he comes back and wants help selecting individual components, the prebuilt selections in my link would be a nice resource. Simply, look at motherboard, check tested ram page, and go from there. If he goes in that direction, I would be happy to assist.
