Thanks for any and all help.
I am purchasing an 8gig iPhone. Like many of you, my song library is many times this size. I've spent most of my work day browsing apple forums readings about smart playlists and the various workarounds people use to put music on their devices. The general consensus is to create playlists and smart playlists that are smaller in size to the iPhone/iPod and then sync them. Some people also create fancy smart playlist with their least-played or newest music that update themselves as needed. The gist of all of the advice however is to shrink your library down to playlists the size of the device, and therefore exclude most of it. I don't want to do that.
Here is what I'd like to be able to do:
-Place a gig or so of highest rated material on the iPhone - I imagine I just create a smart playlist with 5-star songs and a 1gig limit. Question: what if I have 2 gigs of 5-star songs? Will it rotate the songs out? Randomly?
-Place some of my newest music on the iPhone - I imagine I can create a newest music smart playlist or just create playlists for each new album.
-Fill the rest of the iPhone with a random assortment of all of my other music. I do NOT want to go through my library and exclude certain tracks. Instead I would like to have say 6gigs of music loaded randomly, and then every time I sync have anther six gigs of random music swap in. The goal is to have every track I have (or at least that I've placed in iTunes) have a shot at getting played on the iPhone. Is there any way to make this happen?
