Large Icon / Font issue

Hi all,
Trying to shoot a problem for a family member out of state so please bear with me if I?m missing details.
Machine is a Compaq Persario running XP Home, 2.94 ghz Pent 4 with 512 meg of ram. There are three logins built on the computer. When logging into one particular id, the screen will come up in typical fashion and then go completely black and then resume displaying huge icons and fonts. They are then able to enter screen properties and reset to the proper resolution.
Any help appreciated.

I have more info on this issue. After logging in and having the screen go black and return with the large fonts......had them check screen settings and they were 640x480. They were able to set resolution back to a more acceptable view.
Any ideas? Bob...
