Ok, how does one get XP to recognize a new, larger (80 gig) harddrive. It is recognized in the bootup etc. but when xp tries to install it, it says that the filter driver for this device is invalid. Using an abit be6 II rev2. with the hp370 raid. NOT using it though at this point. This problem is with the primary slave hd. What to do?? anybody? anybody? :disgust:🙂😉🙁😱

Two options: 1- Update mobo BIOS if one is available. 2- Disable on-board IDE adapters in BIOS and plug in an ATA-66, 100 or 133 PCI IDE adapter--whichever covers the speed of your drive. They are CHEAP (chec k For Sale/Trade section here)

XP should be fine after it starts booting (not sure at what point the IDE drivers are loaded though). The only thing affected by that is the ability to boot from it, after that a real OS should have no problems with even if the BIOS doesn't see it correctly.

I had a 30G drive on a P133 that would only see it as 8G, as soon as Linux booted up and loaded the driver (had to boot from floppy since the BIOS wouldn't recognize the disk properly) it talked directly to the IDE controller and saw it as 30G.
