Large hard drive and win 2k question...

Just got a 160 gb maxtor hard drive. Slapped it in as secondary master....booted up to my win2k and went to administrative tools, disk management, etc....the drive is only seen as a 128 gb drive....can anyone tell me what i need to turn on or enable or whatever to get it to be recognized as 160 gb? thanks..t

The drive size limit "standard" IDE can address is 128GB. Maxtor developed ATA133 to address the problem and allow for IDE drives to reach into the petabyte range. Based on the fact the Maxtor DM160 will require this controller card to see more than 128GB in any OS I find it odd it didn't come bundled with your drive. I know all the retail units come bundled with one.

I got the oem so guess it did not come with it...but thanks for the info, was very helpful...will go and order a controller card now. I did not know that about the 128 gb limit...thanks again...very very helpful..and nice to know the drive is not bad..t
