Large Font theme ??? Where did it go?

roger that, these old eyes can hardly read the text in a thread. much too small

back in a day or so after the bugs are worked out.

Since my other post up top got deleted. The font is way too small, I think we had this conversation the last time you guys upgraded the forums.
I don't like to have to put my resolution at 800 X 600 just to view this forum on a 22" monitor.

they are 1 point larger than pro... but I hear your issue and when time permits will make a large font theme for anandtech.. Just not top priority right now..

Thanks

It's still too small. I like enormous retard fonts that a normal person can read from across the room. I can't handle normal sized print.

I'd also like to say that I know you guys must have worked really hard to change things over. I imagine updating to the new forums has been like working really hard to bake a cake, and when you bring it to the table we just take a big dump in the middle of it and laugh.

I don't like the new style, but I appreciate your efforts to make it available to us. I'd be thrilled if you just changed it back though.

People always react like this when we change things, every single time. We'll weather the storm as it looks and acts fine, it's just different and people have to get used to it.

wtf?? I just started reading this thread and decided to change the theme. When I finished and came back to this forum, the navigation bar was gone from the top and located on the left side in sort of a link format. Did this just change as I was viewing this thread?? I tried going back and changing the theme but it didn't change things. Weird. Problem is that this makes the page get squeezed even further. Yuck!

Thanks Jason I reeally liked the Large font these that was in place before.

For now what I have to do is go to Tools>Internet options > Accessibility... > Then enable Ignore font sizes specified on Web pages, this way I can change the font size but all websites are affected. 🙁

For fellow blind people who refuse to get glasses just grab a copy of mozilla and on any page that hurts your eyes for reason other then a bad color scheme just do control + and the font will grow.

Yup, I'll be looking forward to a way to increase the font size again. Makes me laugh that, exactly like the last upgrade, calls of "the text is too small" are met with "it's fine to us". 😉

Though the fonts look fine to me, I don't understand why web designers can't seem to bring themselves to use relative scale fonts, instead of specifying pixels and making everything unresizeable in IE. If this were a fixed-width site with lots of graphic elements that need to fit well to look neat, I could understand, but on a variable-width forum? 😕

Jason, I think the layout is great. Love the new forms overall. The 100% you are talking about in the other thread looks interesting. The only thing I miss is the really black theme that used to be there. I loved it. Otherwise GREAT JOB! If you could later add something like that and the larger font for people with bad eyesite maybe it would be even nicer. No matter what though you did a great job. Thanks for all your work!! So many have bashed the new software and did not even wait for the databases to fill up before yelling. Thanks again for a job well done and keep up the great work!!

Seems to have corrected itself hopefully. If that was an experiment; please don't do it again or at least take my vote against it. Strange though......!
I also agree with Spencer278, mozilla handles the font just fine with Ctrl +. Gotta love it!

Hi guys, large font theme is in.

jliechty, I've used and played around with scaling fonts. My opinion, they are a pain in the butt and cause all sorts of problems with layout. It's something we will do in fusetalk, but it just isn't a big priority thing right now.

Yes, they are a PITA in fixed-size layouts, but I've never had any problems with using them in relatively scaled layouts... then again I've never written anything that approaches this size. 😉

Glad to hear that it could be coming some time in the future, anyway. 🙂

The problem is the fixed pixel layout, not the relative scaled fonts.
I could care less about large fonts myself (I prefer to get more text on the screen). However, the large font fans may be in for a surprise, and the reasons for this surprise annoy me also:

The current layout requires your browser window to be at least 1024 pixels wide in order not to get a horizontal scrollbar. Horizontal scrollbars suck. Even though I am in 2048x1536, I normally don't have my browser windows that wide - I would rather have multiple windows totally visible on the screen simultaneously. Actually it looks like this is due to top.gif, the overall site navbar, for some reason I don't remember needing the site wide before, was the Anandtech logo previously above the other buttons?

Also, the bars at the top and bottom of each message are explictly made exactly 20 pixels high in the HTML.
a) This looks ugly with normal 100% fonts because there is a huge gap between the bottom of the text on the Reply/Quote/Top/Bottom buttons and the bottom of the bar, and...
b) The fixed size bar doesn't get taller when you make the text big, and with over 150% text zoom the bottom of the letters is outside the bar looking REALLY bad.

I think the pictures on the bar on top of each message are also much bigger, which is why they are taking up all of that bar even though it is bigger now. I would like these pics reduced from 19px high to about 13, and the bar height also reduced.

Could it be possible to make the post count and date joined smaller? I had my font on smaller and the post count and date joined was an ideal size for me (IMO its a waste of space putting the exact date someone joined).
