I've tried both Toshiba Satellite 5005-s504 and IBM Thinkpad T22.

While they both perform pretty much equally, in my case I did not like Toshiba Satellite at all. Toshiba laptop was made out of plastic, and felt sort of cheap. Any scratch on the lid was very visible and embarassing. Toshiba Satellite 5005-s504 didn't have parallel or serial port either.

IBM Thinkpad T22 is build much better than Toshiba and feels as it will not even break if you'll accidently drop it on the floor. The only drawback for Thinkpad is the video card, which is Savage IX. It is not the best video card for gaming, however for DVDs, AutoCAD and SolidWorks it is pretty sufficient. One more very convinient feature of the Thinkpad is the keyboard, which feels and looks very identical to the regular desktop keyboard. Last, but not least, my Thinkpad T22 is only 1.3" thick and weights just around 4.3 lbs. That is much better than 1.8" thick and 7.1 lbs Toshiba Satellite 5005-s504.

By looking at my signature you can see which laptop I decided to keep 🙂

Dell Inspiron 4100 or IBM ThinkPad T or R series are bar none the best.

What's your price range?

What kind of specs are you looking for (processor/RAM/Hard Drive/CD/DVD/CD-RW/screen/etc.)?
