Ok, I'm looking for a laptop. All I know is that I want something quite powerful, including either an A64 or Pentium M and either 5700+ or 9600+ graphics with a nice looking screen. Can anyone recommend a company (Toshiba, Sony, Dell, Ibm, Alienware, HP come to mind), a certain model, or describe any other features I might look for specifically? Budget isn't toooo much of an issue but I don't just want the most expensive thing.... mebbe 2k-2500? Is that reasonable to get one with a decent graphics card?

- thanks

Dell (maybe others?) is offering a mobility 9800. Dell and others offer mobility 9700 as well. You might check their prices, plus Alienware and VoodooPC.

Mobility 9600 and fx5700goslo aren't terribly fast, so if you want to be playing Doom3 (and D3-engine games), HL2, Far Cry, etc. you probably want at least a 9700 with 128 MB.

a 9700 with 128mb memory is the lowest GPU I would play Doom 3 on, though it runs quite well.

Thanks for the tips, but my main concern isn't just playing games; that was just the one criteria I figured everyone would pick up on (which you did :) ) but I figured I would just take that as a baseline and see what else was important. So far I've heard about a Dell.... what about Best Buy? What kinds do they have and are there any good ones? I'd like to be able to see it and judge the screen quality and stuff.

Thanks

By the way, I'm not really into Doom anyway; it was cool building a computer for my roomate with a 6800 in it and seeing the eye candy :) - too bad he's got a cheapo LCD though.
