Laptops with great battery life

I admit I overestimated the ability of laptops. I would have thought that we'd be seeing gaming laptops with 10 hours of battery life on them. That was my mistake when I went looking for laptops. I'm not a hardcore gamer. But I am seeking a laptop that will at least run 3d games, even if on the lowest setting. But another priority is battery life. Are there any laptops out there with a 5+ hour battery life? I'm mainly going to be using this to take notes during college, surf the internet, and watch movies. Any help given will be greatly appreciated.

well certainly, then, get a 9-cell battery for whatever you buy, even if it sticks out the back. my 1501 has a 9-cell thats fits entirely inside the case, so i have no protrusions and i get at least 4 hours run time, and thats with full brightness watching streaming tv (so wifi goin fullbore too). i think all current laptops suck generally the same amount of juice, i know the core2's are the most efficient yet im not finding anything that says theyre that much better then amd's.

what you can also do is get one of those large flat batteries that hook onto the bottom of the laptop. those i know will run a lappy for about 10 hours (along with the internal battery) but they do add thickness to the laptop, and they are around $200 or more....

You only overestimated battery technology, which really hasn't come very far since the introduction of Lithium-Ion ten years ago.

So I've been looking through these forums about laptops with great battery life, and I read a few posts with people saying that Dell's m1330 has the best laptop for what I'm looking for. How long do you think I'd get out of it supposing I get a 9 cell but also if I choose to get the nVidia 8400 Go, a 7200RPM harddrive, and I'm running it on medium brightness? I dont know if the proclaimed 7+ hours that's advertised is whether or not their considering regular brightness settings or not.

i would think the 7200rpm drive would hurt you pretty bad in battery life. think of it, thats a couple thousand rev's more every minute, and it basically is ALWAYS running. i would think you will want to stick with a 5400rpm drive...

I heard that the RPM speed doesn't influence battery life as much as most people think.
