Hi all,

I was just looking at ztgroup's flyer and they are selling laptops with the amd athlon xp 2400 and 2600 desktop processors. At least that is what the salesman said. Has anyone heard of this? The nice thing is that it comes with an ATI 9600 pro with 128meg of memory and a nice 40 gig seagate momentus HD. the 2400 is selling for $1149 after rebate. The flyer indicates that the battery gets three hours (Im sure this is for normal applications).

Does this sound like a good deal for a laptop? Im thinking of getting one, but Im not sure how the desktop amd processors will be on the battery life, since I will be traveling with it (on a plane 2-3 times a month, in hotels the other times). You can visit zdgroup.com on the internet, but they are only showing the centrino notebooks. I know CNET gave their desktop systems good reviews, but havent heard any reviews for the laptop. It is the cheapest ive seen for a Radeon 9600 pro though, and Im thinking of getting it. Any thoughts?

thanks,
Tom

If it is set up extremely well you could expect 3 hours battery life. On average for this type of machine I'd say approx 2 hours.

Do you have any kind of link so I can check the machine? At those specs, for that price it is a great bargain..... not to mention that not a lot of machines out there could match it....

I would like to know the chipset used for the machine, or a little more detailed specs. Maybe you could find out more about it, but so far the advice is get it.

Hi,

No I dont have a link, it was in their brochure, but you could call at 866-984-7687 to get all the specs.

I wonder what the resale value of a laptop like zt group's laptop is on ebay. I would probably sell it after I finish traveling. Does anyone know if it will sell well being an off-brand? What if I sold it on ebay? I notice the dell 8500 and 8600 computers sell really well, maybe because of the brand name. Any thoughts?

thanks,
Tom

Resale value would be lower (% wise) then your mainstream machines. CTX, Winbook etc.... all go for dirt on Ebay. It'll sell but you'll take a big hit unless someone comes along and has their head in the sand. This is always a possibility....

It is all a mind game. But specs are more impoprtant than anything..... A basic celeron sony will sell no higher than a loaded off-brand Athlon XP-M
