Toshiba w/ P4 2.0ghz M - $1213 AR/AC

Sony w/ P4 2.0A - $1263 AR/AC

I was looking at these two laptops with BestBuy's 10% coupon for the next few days (check Hot Deals) and I'm not sure what the main performance difference between the P4 2.0A and the 2.0-M are.

Isn't the 2.0A the regular desktop processor? I plan on using this laptop to replace my desktop, so what're the main differences in performance between the two? It seems as if the Sony's Radeon 7500 GPU is better, but I'm not too aware of difference in mobile video graphics.

i should probably just wait until Centrino's drop in price....

i would get the one with the P4m just so you get the power saving features
performance-wise there should be no difference between the desktop P4 and the P4m

yeah centrino rocks it is definately worth looking into
there are some in that same price range

btw a 1.6ghz centrino should perform like a 2.4ghz P4

doesn't the P4-m slow down and speed up to conserve power? I read that a P4 2.0 m would really run at like 1.3-1.4ghz most of the time. Does the P42.0A do the same thing? Since this laptop will be plugged in, I don't really care too much about battery life.

it should only step down in speed when you aren't using the cpu cycles, which is a non issue and shouldn't affect performance in any way
the desktop P4 does not have speed step technology enabled, it will be able to throttle itself in overheating situations but that's about it

the reason they use the desktop P4's in laptops is cause they are cheaper to get and pin compatible
these P4's run hot enough as it is

I have a sager 1.8ghz P4m laptop which i got from http://powernotebooks.com last summer
and it even runs hotter than i would like in a laptop

the centrino stomps the P4 for laptops tho

you should be able to adjust settings to avoid power saving feature .when you are at bb have them take screen saver off so you can look at settings and such:)
