Laptops using different brands of hardware ?

Is this a foreign concept or can laptops use different brands of component. I realize they're very particular to begin with, but can say a Fujitsu notebook use an IBM or WD HD ? I'm starting to experience some anomalous sounds from my Fujitsu notebook which I presume uses Fujitsu HD. Can I upgrade and get an IBM or something more 'proven' with my Fujitsu notebook ?

Thanx.

you can most certainly use a different brand of hdd to replace your present one.
you just have to be sure of the drive external dimensions before you purchase.

The laptop makers use whatever they can get for the cheapest price while meeting their specifications. I see Toshiba laptops with IBM and Fujistu (in the low-end models) drives and some with Toshiba drives. Go with Toshiba or IBM for your HDD.
