So yeah, my friend is looking for a new laptop perferably under $1000ish
Kinda picky but here's what I'm supposed to search for:

At least 1ghz
256mb ram
30 gb hard drive
decent graphics card/chip (whatever)
won't have heating problems
and under 5lbs

Dunno if I'm asking for too much... but yeah...

Here's an "Averatec" Link

Can someone enlighten me on that model and how AMD athlon xp-m compares to Intel's Pentium-M /Centrino?

Should I just be looking for a dell or something?
And no, absolutely no celerons or durons here... thanks.

Very good little notebook for the price.
I think it is very well made
and good performer, especially in this price range.

I got a Dell C400 for my sister for Christmas for about $1050 after rebate. It's no screamer, but it's light and has all the functionality she needs.

Friend of mine owns it
and yeafor the price it seems really solid
and pretty good performer especially as small thin and light
with a built in drive.

Don't really think it's as fast and efficient as the Pentium M machines but it also cost a whole lot less

I have an Averatec 3150H (No wi-fi or XP Pro) and it's very responsive. LCD and bottom half have hard casing (I think it's Mg alloy), area around keyboard is plastic.

Athlon XP-M 1600 @ 1.4GHz
256 mb RAM
30gb Hard drive
DVD-ROM/CD-RW combo drive
8-16-32mb integrated S3 ProSavage8 video <- not good for newer games. DVDs look fine.
56k + 10/100 LAN
1* PC Card Slit
1* VGA out

Hey does anyone have the: Latitude D500 ?

How does that compare to these?

edit: specs::
4.79lb, 1.25" thin Centrino Notebook 1.3Ghz 14.1" XGA Screen, 128MB/Free 30GB, CD-ROM, Intel 802.11b wireless card, Free 1 month T-mobile service, Free carrying case, Modem, Ethernet, XP Home $1099 - instant $100 off in Cart - $100 rebate = $899. Free shipping.

I actually priced to be like $1049 w/256mb ram, 30Gb hard drive, and dvd/cdrw combo~

Worth the extra $$ just for dell and a bigger screen?
