This question has been pondering in my mind lately, I have been wanting a laptop for quite some time now and I was just wondering if I could get a "barebone" laptop and customize it like a regular desktop pc.
 
In essence, no. You may find some laptops where you can change the video card, but even then it's often very limited as to the scope of what cards you can use. Pretty much every laptop manufacturer uses differently styled/shaped parts. You'll also find that getting components is often very expensive and hard to come by.
