my laptop compaq presario 1200-xl 104 froze so i tried to turn it off by holding the power button. nothing would happen so i decided to just pull the battery out. i reinserted teh battery and now it won't power up. wtf?

edit; to make matters worse, the laptop isn't mine. it's a friend's 🙁

On Dell laptops sometimes this works, disconnect the AC, pull the battery out and hold the power button down for 15 seconds. Try to fire it up with the AC, battery or both.

could pulling out the battery while the computer is on short some hardware causing it to not power up anymore?

compaq presario 1200-xl 104

this is what the compaq guy told me

"Tim: While changing the RAM or battery the power section of the notebook may have disturbed or damaged"

can this be true?

Long shot: It's possible that whatever cause it to freeze also the reason for no powering up. Good luck though. Is this a good friend?
