my laptop has booting from usb as one of the boot order options, but i cant get it to boot. the usb device is listed during post, but it doesnt show up in the f12 boot menu. my desktop can boot the usb drive though. is there any way to get my laptop to boot from usb? i dont want to waste a cd every time i want to play with a new linux distro

thanks

as a test...unplug the hard drive and see if it will boot to the USB device.
I haven't figured out a fix, but I am curious if you are in the same boat that I am.

It may just be a hardware compatibility issue (it happens). I have a Dell laptop that absolutely refuses to boot from a specific 4GB USB flash drive that I have.

You might want to try an SD slot if you have one. That's a very elegant way of multibooting, especially with specialty O/Ss.

thanks everyone

looks like it might be a flash drive problem. i pulled out an old 1gb pny drive and it worked. are there ways to get my other usb drives working too?
