Laptop woes....can't seem to find what's causing lockups

I just a solo 2550 laptop together, and it always locks up when I play either a divx or a dvd (software decode). It also might just lock up randomly too. I'm guessing that it's a heat problem, but could it be anything else? RAM? Hard drive? Also does anyone know where I can buy thermal pads (about 2mm thick)?

The problem is that you bought a Gateway. Anyhow, see if their are any firmware upgrades for the DVD player, and download the latest DivX encoders.

would a firmware upgrade fix a lockup? I mean, it's a lockup where the mouse doesn't move and I have to emergency reset it.

It could resolve that. It can't hurt to try, anyhow.
