Laptop with what media player/codec?

I travel constantly for my job and one of the things I do is RIP my DVD collection or what I get from NetFlix's to my hard drive so as not to run my battery down using the DVD-ROM. But I was recently wondering if the media player or codec I had was do anything to the battery life.

I currently RIP using XVID codec and use Zoom Player 4.0. Any suggestions or thoughts so I can prolong my battery life. I'm currently getting about 2 hours with my Dell laptop and battery.

And before I get flamed for ripping my Netflix, I actually delete the movie once I am done viewing it. I have limited HD space and to store all of the movies would take up too much space.
