Hi, same friend, same computer.

This is an old 233mhz laptop that I helped a friend reinstall windows on. The problem is that windows only uses about half the available display for the desktop?! Currently he has the default "Standard VGA PCI driver" installed and since he's not sure what graphics card is in there, I don't know of any other driver to install! Pointers anyone? I also don't know how to increase the desktop size so that it fills up the entire available display...

I presume you've tried changing the screen resolution?

You could also check with the manufacturer to see if you can identify the video card and then search for drivers on the net?

I couldn't find a screen scaling thingy in the BIOS, all I could find was an option to select displaytype as either LCD or CRT or both. Yes, I've tried changing the resolution, it doesn't work. The only available res is 640x480 with 16 colors!!! Like I said he currently has the Standard PCI VGA driver installed...

I'll try and find the specs of his laptop, but since it's so old I wouldn't count on finding it anywhere...

Thanks for the help, keep it coming....please?
