Laptop with shared system/video memory

I have an Averatec 3200 series with 512mb RAM, but 32mb of that RAM is actually allocated to video. If I upgrade to 1Gb, would that also increase the amount of RAM allocated to video (or is that a fixed 32mb)?

Depends on your bios. It will only go up as high as your bios lets you set it, provided it lets you change it all.

I didn't realize that there's a setting for that in the BIOS. I gotta look in to that.

There should be one, but depending on your video card there might not be; all depends on the make of the integrated graphics. Also if its a newer version of Intel's integrated crap, it might share the memory dynamically but it doesn't sound like that's the case since it uses 32MB even in 2D.

I know some video cards scale the amount of memory used when you have a certain amount of memory. Don't know about your notebook though. Check your manual or the the bios.

You usually have to manually pump up the ammount of memory allocated to your integrated video.

Thanks for the replies. I was able to adjust it in the BIOS, had options for 16, 32, and 64.
