Laptop with HD lock (bios) = garbage?

I picked up a Compaq laptop on ebay but the thing has a bios boot password.. I tried my best to work around it but I can't find a way to boot - would swapping the HDs work (doesn't sound like it would since it's bios PW) or is the thing garbage now? Thanks!

Can't u reset the bios? There's always a way even if u gotta remove the battery overnight.

Someone told me once that removing the CMOS chip itself from the motherboard should do a good job of resetting everything... I don't know how safe that would be though.

It's safe, if you can find the CMOS battery, some are pretty hard to find.
