For some reason, I think the question is "Can I pass DVD out to a TV from my laptop?", not "What's your opinion of people who do this?". To answer the question, I think the IBM T series does (I'll find out in a week - we're getting new ones at work) Dosent the ATI mobile chipset support tv out? I'm pretty sure most newer laptops have an RCA vieo out.

Yep. My Gateway Solo 9300 offers RCA Video in and out, and also an optical SP/DIF port. Works well for DVD playback either on it's 15 inch viewable LCD or via VGA or TV out.

But by what I understand, newer 9300's are missing these features.

No, since I don't place my laptop across the room to watch. It is so nice to be able to watch movies on a train ride, or to get confortable in bed and watch a movie without having to have DVD playback in your room. And considering my laptop has a 15 inch screen, I'd hardly say thats small when it sits a few feet away from your eyes.
