I will be using my laptop for GPS in my RV. I'd like to hook up a wireless web cam in a homemade bracket at the rear window so I can use it to see behind us. What do I need to do that?
I have the lappy with PCMCIA and USB ports and I have a PCMCIA wireless NIC.
TIA

I use a laptop in my rv with a gps as well. As for a rear-view cam, I would go with a commercial product. You need a low light, and waterproof camera. I know my x-10 wireless camera is not capable of showing the resolution I would be comfortable using to park my rv.
What else do you use the laptop for in your rv? I bought a head unit for my stereo system with a line in plug on the front and use the laptop to serve up hours of music without having to change Cd's or tapes. The passengers can watch DVDs on the laptop as well. The gps has been great with streets and trips for finding my way in unfamiliar places.

I was thinking of mounting the cam inside the MH. I have a window with a fresnel lens there, now.
We use our laptop for my wife's work. She is the Internet manager for the local Honda dealership and has to answer emails and update the site.
Which GPS do you use and does it give voice prompts?

The brand I bought is duelo- they have an Ebay store. I have their usb gps and have been happy with it. It is just a little box with a long usb cord on it. It has a magnet on the bottom which I have found to be pretty nice for using in the car on trips as well. Streets and trips does not have voice prompts, but you could just buy a software package that uses them.

X10 info needed.
I am still not clear here. I assume I would attach the receiver to my laptop and it will see the X10 camera?
How is the camera powered and is the receiver USB?
Thanks.

I'm guessing USB and a powercord or battery. The reciever is probably USB powered.

If you go through this link it is $10 off for a total of $40
$10 off

This set up can run on batteries or ac voltage

The site says, that they are currently unavailable.
I won an ebay auction for an X10 kit for $46. We'll see how that works out.
Thanks for all the input.
