Laptop/WinXP Power setting

When i uplug my laptop from the wall, my wireless internet connection slows significantly. Its a home wreless G newtwork, a dell inspiron 8600 with win xp. Is there some kind of power setting that slows the internet down to conserve power? Is there something else going on here that I am unaware of?

So much for the portability...

Battery power almost always automatically throttles down. That used to be part of SpeedStep technology, and the user could disable it - but with newer Centrino systems, it is pretty much automatic.

I am on my 4th laptop since 1995, and I travel all over the world. I have never had to run on battery power for any extended period of time. I sort of reserve that for emergencies and airports when required to turn on the machine to show it's real. 🙂

Ok, i figured it might be like this. I get your point though; at school i just plug it in, and its still very nice. I just hate it at home that i can't just unplug it and take it to the dinner table, couch, kitchen, etc without carring the st00pid plug
