My friends laptop will not start up... he said it worked fine the one night, when he got up in the AM, it wouldn't power on. I checked it out a little today, but I'm not all that familiar with laptop problems.

Could this possibly be a loose power connector inside? if so, how hard is that to fix? It is a Toshiba Portege 7010C. Anything else this might be? I know it was just working as I saw him online, and now today, he says it won't powerup.

Any ideas/comments are greatly appreciated.

Thanks guys.

if it was a loose power connector you wouldn't get lights.

did you try pulling the battery?

Yeah I did... it doesn't start up with or without the battery in it. Doesn't start plugged in, or unplugged, either.

Anyone else?? :(

That is a pretty good indication that you need to get the CPU reseated. They tend to loosen on laptops if they are subjected to a lot of vibration or bumps while traveling. Also reseat the RAM while you are at it. Most laptops access the CPU by lifting the keyboard (carefully.) And you might also try removing the battery completely and powering directly off the A/C brick. If it works then - you have a battery that probably needs replacement.

Does it just power up then just stops booting? In other words, you hear everything startingm then it just dies out and the light blinks, but nothing happens. If so, yes, the CPU needs to be resaeted, or it just fried.
