Laptop Will Not Load Microsoft.com

We have a laptop at work that will not load any Microsoft related websites including Windows Update. It is XP SP2, IE7. I connected it to other networks, will still not load. Ran Hijackthis, Adaware and McAfee- didn't find anything... I checked all of the security settings to make sure they weren't too high or restricting microsoft.com.. Any suggestions?

C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc

Open the hosts file and make sure there is nothing there relating to microsoft sites.

Failing that open a command prompts and do an NSLOOKUP on microsoft.com etc and see what the IP's come back as.

Is it possible that Microsoft WGA is involved here?

WGA

Specifically, unless WGA is installed now, you can't access Windows Updates, etc.

"The company has made installation of Windows Genuine Advantage a requirement for use of the Windows Update website (and its close cousin Microsoft Update), in part to be sure that customers who use support resources of the company are aware when their software is unlicensed. According to Microsoft themselves, it is legal to run Microsoft Windows without Windows Genuine Advantage[citation needed]. However, since non-critical Windows updates are not presented by Automatic Updates, installation of WGA is required for installation of such non-critical updates, which are only available through Windows Update or the Microsoft Download Center."
