Laptop white screen

My buddies' laptop is acting wierd lately. The background is pure white. You can see the icons, but everything else is white. When you go to display and the background tab, you can't click on any of the choices for backgrounds. you can click on the color menu, but it won't change when you apply it. I used it on an external monitor and still had the problem. Has anyone else had this problem?

I'm not sure what model no. it is, but it is a toshiba portege tablet with a 1.5gHz pentium M and 512mb of ram and a 12.1 inch monitor.
 
Check the device manager and make sure the video driver is still properly installed. Worst scenario is to back up your data and do a restore.
