So my laptop was in my bag for like an hour when I felt something really warm. I took out my laptop from my backpack and my computer was hot!

I tried to turn it off by pressing the power button but it was so hot that it burned me a lil bit.

Like it was hot. I immediately shut it down and was wondering if any permanent damage was done.

The computer starts up fine and everything. It is just that I am a little bit paranoid.

I am guessing it must be the wireless usb mouse that was keeping the laptop from going to sleep even while the lid was closed.

Keeping the laptop ON with the lid closed in a closed case for an extended period of time is not a good idea. The cooling system can't function properly.

Alright that is good to know!

Can computer components inside melt from overheating?

Oh, but I agree, you shouldn't do this. I just wouldn't stress too much. what's done is done. I don't know about melting though, I assume anything can melt.

What OS are you using, and what CPU does it have? Is it Windows 8 with Haswell? I'm guessing it has Standby or Hibernate by default when closing the lid but it just didn't work?
