Laptop Video Card

So i bought a Dell laptop a while ago. It has a Ati 9800 i think in it. Well long story shot i was playing it and one day it died on me. We took it to a shop and were told only dell could fix it. Is this true cause if its not i have a spare vid card i could use.

What model of laptop is it? Unless the spare vid card is for a laptop it won't fit anyway. Are you sure it's the GPU rather than the backlight?
