I have a dell xps dont know the model. It has a radeon 9800 256 in it and it burned out. We took it to the shop and said only dell could repaire it and that it would cost more then the laptop its self. Is there a way i can replace it?

IIRC, the Inspiron XPS had a replaceable GPU (not MXM, but a Dell standard). You could try obtaining the card from Dell Spare Parts or Ebay and replace it yourself, but don't spend too much money on a system that old.

That's the one that was based off a 9100 - which I used to own.

Look on eBay - it's a pretty decent card (I hear it was actually based off the x800 series of video cards), and should be availible.
