At first, I suspected a software or spyware issue, but now I wonder if it could be hw related. No viruses or spyware detected.
Happens: When I boot the laptop, or when I resume from standby.
Frequency: I run into this problem every 3-4 days
Symptoms: Computer slows to a crawl--CPU usage at 99% for one process. Usually that process is SVCHOST.EXE. Sometimes it's Explorer, winlogon, or iexplorer. (Basically, I suspect that whatever the 'top' process is, it ties up the CPU)
It doesn't resolve itself if I don't do anything--I've waited for almost 30 minutes. If I shut down or reboot properly, the problem persists. If I force a shutdown (resetting the laptop while Windows is running), the problem goes away! This is beyond my limited knowledge, so any tips appreciated.
