laptop users.. in windows (XP/2000/98) have you ever had this?

two different networks one at home one at work, one dhcp (say) one fixed. Anyway to switch between two profiles (same network card) so they dont have to enter ip info in each time.

I can do it in linux with a batch file but windows?

There are software products that can save your network profiles for you...or you could write your own. All the settings are probably saved in the registry, just search for the values. Can't think of any software titles at the moment but I've used them before so I know they exist.

this?

Wait, in WinXP/2K you can have more then one network connection and you can setup each one differently but utilizing the same hardware. Have you tried this?

XP has "alternate configuration" in your ip properties

you set the "normal" to dhcp, then on the alternate configuration tab, put in the static ip information

whenever it can't reach a dhcp server, it will default over to the "alternate configuration"

it is feature of xp/server 2003, so you would have to do something else for windows 2000

you could write a .vbs script for 2000/98 , place it on the desktop and let the user switch back and forth by using one script for dhcp and another for the static info

no how do you?

"Create a new connection". Should be an option under the "connections" menu.
